Randy’s Story: A Team That Showed Up When He Had No One

Before Wayspring, Randy was struggling through some of the toughest challenges of his life. He lived with anxiety, post-traumatic stress, had learning differences that made everyday tasks and using a computer difficult, and often went without necessities like food. Navigating community resources felt impossible, and without family to lean on, he was trying to do it all alone.

Then a devastating flood swept through Frankfort, Kentucky. Randy’s home, the one thing that gave him a sense of stability, was destroyed under six feet of water. Suddenly, he was homeless, alone, and without family to turn to.

“I didn’t know where to begin,” Randy said. “I felt like I hit the very bottom.”

That’s when Wayspring stepped in.

Kylie, an engagement specialist, was the first to connect with Randy. She listened, built trust, and immediately mobilized help. What started as the care of one person quickly became a coordinated circle of support.

Randy soon began working with Adam, a therapist who meets with him every two weeks. Together, they address his anxiety, trauma, confidence, and difficult relationship dynamics that contributed to his stress. He also met Sara, a behavioral health nurse practitioner who offered calm, compassionate guidance and helped him understand his mental health treatment options. Kelli, a nurse practitioner, joined his care team to help manage his physical health needs, ensuring he received consistent, comprehensive care. And then there is Triton, another engagement specialist who meets with him weekly and has become a steady presence in helping Randy rebuild his life.

Triton helped Randy navigate FEMA housing, a process that felt impossible to navigate alone. He attended FEMA meetings with Randy, printed off paperwork, sent helpful reminders, and made sure he felt confident and supported throughout the process. Triton also helped Randy connect with SNAP benefits, clothing support, and other essential community resources.

Recently, Randy and Triton applied for disability benefits through Mindset.

Together, the Wayspring team surrounded Randy with consistent, whole-person support. Each person played a different role, but they shared one purpose: to help Randy regain his footing and believe in a better future.

“Wayspring is awesome,” Randy shared. “I have no family anymore, so I felt really alone before. Everyone I have worked with has been so patient and reliable. I don’t feel alone anymore. I have a home. I have food. I feel like I can live life again.”
