Motivated by Motherhood: Grace’s Path to Recovery

For years, Grace lived in a storm that never seemed to pass. Rehab stays followed by relapses, each one heavier than the last. The weight of her unresolved PTSD from a toxic relationship kept pulling her under. “I could not face what happened in the past,” Grace shared. “I kept cycling in and out of rehab.”

Then came a moment that changed everything: Grace learned she was pregnant. In that instant, her world shifted. “I knew it was time,” she said. “I didn’t want those thoughts in my body when I was pregnant. I needed to let them out.”

Grace heard about Wayspring because they would visit her during her past rehab stays, but she wasn’t ready then. This time was different. This time, she had a reason bigger than herself— a tiny heartbeat that gave her hope.

From the very first session, Grace showed courage. She met with her Wayspring therapist, Mari, and found a safe space where she could truly open up. Mari explained, “Grace was ready to do the hard part of therapy, and we connected well. She trusted the process.”

Therapy was not easy. Healing never is. But Grace leaned in. She began writing about her experiences, reading them with Mari, and faced the pain piece by piece. Slowly, the weight began to lift. “I just hit two years clean,” Grace said proudly. “I used to relapse every time I thought about the past. Now, I can process emotions when they come. I’m centered in safety.”

“Grace advocates for herself now,” Mari shared. “She’s learning to address things early instead of letting them simmer. It’s been an honor to walk with her through this.”

As Grace stepped into motherhood, she found peace in her home. It was a calm she had never known before. Her son is now seven months old, and every day reminds her why she fought so hard. “I’m able to be a better mom now,” she shared. “We have a loving space in our house. No secrets, no chaos.”

Today, Grace’s recovery is a testament to resilience. It is therapy sessions and bedtime stories. It is a home filled with love instead of fear. It is a mother who fought for her child and for herself. “I think it’s so funny that I’m part of a success story now,” she said. “Before, I never thought this would be me. But I was ready this time. I was motivated.”

Grace’s journey is a powerful reminder that healing takes time and that with the right support, anything is possible.
